Ghuguni

Ghuguni!!😍
Yellow peas curry, a popular dish from Odisha.
Being an odia, I grew up eating ghuguni with almost every snack. We like ghuguni with bara, chakuli, paratha, roti, upma, poori and even as a chaat. Just add chopped onions, chopped green chilli, lemon juice, some sev and your ghuguni chat is ready.

Step-by-step recipe:
▪️Wash 2 cups yellow peas, soak it in water overnight.
▪️Drain the water, rinse peas. Transfer them to a pressure cooker.
▪️Peel off two potatoes and cut them into pices. Wash and transfer them to the same pressure cooker.
▪️Add salt, turmeric powder and water. Cover the lid, pressure cook for 2-3 whistles. Let the pressure release naturally.
▪️Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pot.
▪️Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 bay leaf, 2 dried red chillies, 2 green cardamoms and 1 inch cinnamon stick. Let them crackle.
▪️Add 3 sliced onions. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
▪️Add 2 tbsp ginger and garlic paste. Sauté until the raw smell goes away.
▪️Add two chopped tomatoes. Mix well.
▪️Add salt and 1 tsp turmeric powder. Sauté until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
▪️Add 1 tbsp red chilli powder, 1 tbsp coriander powder and 1/2 tbsp cumin powder. Mix everything well and sauté for two minutes.
▪️Add 1 tbsp curry powder and sauté for two minutes.
▪️Add boiled peas and potatoes. Mix everything well. Sauté for 2-3 minutes
▪️Add water and mix. Simmer and cook for 5-6 minutes.
▪️Add chopped coriander and garam masala powder. Mix well.
▪️Serve hot as a side or chaat.
