Step-by-step recipe:
โช๏ธRinse and soak 1 cup chana dal for 2-3 hours. Drain and keep aside.
โช๏ธPeel and cut lauki into small pieces. Rinse and keep aside.
โช๏ธAdd soaked chana dal and chopped lauki to a pressure cooker. Add salt, turmeric powder and water. Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
โช๏ธHeat 2 tbsp oil in a pot.
โช๏ธAdd 2 bay leaves, 2 dried red chillies and 1 tsp cumin seeds. Let them sizzle.
โช๏ธAdd 2 chopped onions and sautรฉ them until onions turn light golden brown.
โช๏ธAdd 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste and sautรฉ until raw smell goes away.
โช๏ธAdd chopped green chillies, 1 tbsp red chilli powder, 1 tbsp coriander powder, 1 tsp roasted cumin powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder. Mix well and sautรฉ for 2 minutes.
โช๏ธAdd 1 chopped tomato. Saute until it turns soft and mushy.
โช๏ธAdd salt and 1 tsp garam masala powder. Sautรฉ for two minutes.
โช๏ธAdd the cooked dal and mix everything well.
โช๏ธCook for 4-5 minutes.
โช๏ธAdd some chopped coriander leaves and mix.
โช๏ธServe hot with rice, roti, poori or paratha.
